Saskatchewan is the global proving ground for resilient agriculture, and our climate reflects that. January in Saskatoon is beautiful, crisp, and notoriously cold. We know that travelling from warmer international climates requires preparation, so we’ve outlined everything you need to make your arrival and stay completely frictionless.
Arriving in Saskatoon (YXE)
Your gateway to the Western Canadian Crop Production Show is the Saskatoon’s John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE). It is a highly efficient, modern airport located just 15 minutes from the downtown core and 20 minutes from our venue at Prairieland.
Customs & Entry: If you are arriving on an international flight connecting through Toronto (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), or Calgary (YYC), you will clear Canadian customs at your first point of entry before boarding your short domestic flight to Saskatoon.
Getting Around the City
While Saskatoon is a growing, modern city, you will not want to wait outside for transportation in January.
Taxis & Rideshares: Uber is fully operational in Saskatoon, alongside reliable local taxi fleets (such as Riide and Comfort Cabs). Rideshares and taxis are readily available right outside the airport arrivals doors.
Hotel Shuttles: Many of our preferred hotel partners offer complimentary airport shuttles. We recommend confirming this service directly with your hotel upon booking.

Saskatoon features excellent hospitality, with the highest concentration of premium hotels located in the downtown core. Staying downtown places you near our finest local restaurants and within a quick 10-minute taxi ride to Prairieland.
Prairieland’s official hotel sponsor is Delta Hotels by Marriott, including the Delta Saskatoon Downtown and the Delta Bessborough. We encourage you to book your rooms with them for your stay in our city, but there are numerous other accommodation options.
Dressing for a Prairie Winter
January temperatures in Saskatchewan frequently dip to -30°C (-22°F). While the entire Western Canadian Crop Production Show takes place indoors across our interconnected, climate-controlled exhibition halls, your brief commutes will be cold.
The Rule of Layers: We highly recommend a heavy winter parka, insulated gloves, a warm toque (winter hat), and practical, insulated footwear with good traction. Inside the halls, standard business or smart-casual attire is perfectly comfortable. And if you find yourself needing an extra layer once you arrive, just ask our team—we’d be happy to introduce you to the “Saskatchewan bunnyhug” (our distinct local term for a hooded sweatshirt) for some added prairie warmth!
